Search Engine Optimisation made easy

Why Rental Agreements DIY ranks well in Google, MSN and Yahoo

It is highly likely you will arrive at our Rental Agreements DIY website through a search engine. The odds are very high it was via Google. 93% of our traffic is from search engines and Google is better than ten to one compared to all other search engines combined. We are on page one or two of Google search results for most of our targeted keywords and phrases.

Our search engine ranking is not luck. This website has been specifically designed for search engine success.

What I know and why I know it

Let's start with why I know about search engines and websites.

My name is Luke Scully. I have been deeply involved in all things internet since 1995. Since 1997 I have owned and operated web hosting and web design businesses. Over this time I have been associated with thousands of websites. Some of the sites I have worked with are National Rugby League (NRL), Australian Rugby League (ARL), St George Illawarra Dragons, Parramatta Eels, Manly Sea Eagles, North Sydney Council, Woollahra Council, Ken Done, Sass and Bide, Collette Dinnigan, Bourke's Backyard, The Getaway Show, W H Soul Pattinson, Riviera Marine, Johnnie Walker plus lots and lots of big and small websites.

It is hard to say this without it sounding like I am blowing my own trumpet, but I am a trumpet blower from way back. I would be one of the most experienced people in Australia when it come to internet related issues. I am technically competent and commercially aware. For over a decade I have had a privileged, insider's perspective on the success or failure of many, many online ventures. I have spent countless hours analysing client web statistics. I have a good handle on why some sites achieve and maintain search engine success and some don't.

Lessons Learned or why is this website so ugly?

In 1997 when I started my first internet business we had an office, a phone, a desk, a computer, not much money and a broom. I suppose I said we in the royal sense as there was only one person working in the company - me. I built our first website. As you can see by this site I am no graphic designer. The site was fairly plain and offered a range of internet services. It was easy back then to get high rankings in Yahoo, Altavista, Excite and others. Google didn't exist. Web hosting customers from all over the world found our site. We had a travel agent in Nepal, a rug merchant in Italy and a growing band of customers from Australia.

With some success behind us we hired staff. Our new graphic designer was embarrassed by our corporate website. He pushed for a redesign. Soon after we launched our slick, new, state of the art website and almost instantly our online enquiries stopped. We had lost our dominant search engine ranking. Ouch. Most graphic designers know very little about search engines and technical website design.

The Rental Agreements DIY website was designed to maximise our chance of search engine success. The site was initially created text only. The plan was to submit it to search engines and while waiting to get catalogued, add some graphics and make the site more presentable. Well it took off like a rocket. We were catalogued in Google in 3 days. In 7 days we were coming up on the first or second page of search results for lots of keywords. Lots of targeted visitors, lots of customers - the formula for a successful online business. So as they say - If it ain't broke don't fix it. We have made very few changes since the site launched. Just adding a logo was a big decision.

Can you do what I do?

Search engine success is broadly based on two things.

  1. Text
Search engines catalogue text. You need pages with keyword rich, well constructed prose. The more pages, the better.
  2. Links
You need other websites to link to you. The more relevant the site, the better.

Simple isn't it.

Well the concept is simple enough but the practical application can be daunting for many.

If you listen to someone who really knows what they are talking about you can save years of search engine trial and error.

Brad Cullen has one of the most comprehensive free books on search engine success. It is called " Search Engine Optimization Made Easy." It is a step by step practical guide to creating a search engine friendly website and gaining high search engine ranking. I have given this report to many of my clients and I recommend you take advantage of this free offer.
