The web is a beautiful thing.

Analysis of our web logs show we are increasing traffic daily. A reasonable proportion of our traffic is from outside Australia. Understanding web stats is a mixture of art and science. If you begin from the concept that you should not believe the numbers then you will be on your way to getting full value from your analysis. If you doubt me, run your web logs through a few different stats systems. Look at your google analytics. None of them will be the same. Who can tell which one is right? So ignore the actual numbers.

Just because the logs say traffic originated from a particular country does not mean it is true. Web logs need to be viewed more from a ratio and comparison point of view. You need to look at trends over time to get anything meaningful out of it.

Even discounting the inaccuracy of logs we can see people from a range of countries outside Australia are visiting our site.

Let's be quite clear here. They are not visiting for entertainment. Except for various witty (some may say sad) remarks scattered throughout the site, there is no fun here.

People are here for a purpose. They have a need to satisfy. They have some problem that compels them to look at my dry information site instead of visiting bikini babe sites as they should.

So being a kind soul I would like to help them satisfy their needs. Watch out as we take over the world.
